Buying a property, working in building management, or overseeing a development project all come with risk. Hidden defects and unexpected costs can quickly escalate, causing delays and affecting your budget.
We help you to reduce that risk, plan ahead, and protect your investment.
How we help:
We provide clear, reliable advice at every stage. Allowing you to move forward smoothly, confident there will be no costly surprises.
Based in Seaford, East Sussex, we cover our local towns of Eastbourne, Lewes, Uckfield, Hailsham, Bexhill, and the cities of Brighton & Hove and Greater London.

We have a long history of accurately diagnosing damp issues using a range of equipment, expertise and knowledge. We can quickly identify issues linked to condensation, penetrating damp, plumbing failures and roof leaks to provide you with a report that can be handed to a competent builder or roofer to provide quotes for the recommended works.

Why not, it’s your survey? We offer unique opportunities to meet with us on site to discuss your specific concerns and the defects we have identified.
We are also on hand to offer advice on extensions, conversions, layouts, design and planning permission along with budgets for your ideas to aid the decision making process.

A good project requires good preparation and excellent documentation. We take the plans and couple these with your real world wants and needs to produce an extensive, itemised Schedule of Works, full of detailed technical and project specific information to ensure the quotes you receive are accurate and that what is included in the contract is clear, removing future conflict from the process.

We have an extensive panel of contractors with different competencies and strengths so that we can suggest the appropriate contractor for your project. We offer tendering services where we seek out tenders from contractors. We analyse the tenders for errors or omissions and report back to you on their value when benchmarked against industry standards, so you know if it is a good price for your project.

We use industry gold standard building contracts and prepare these for you and your contractor to sign before works commence.
We use a Heads of Terms process to discuss and decide important information like retentions, insurances and payment frequencies so that you know exactly where you stand and are well protected throughout your project and beyond.

Once works commence, we provide regular supervision meetings to check on quality and progress. We undertake valuations to confirm the right time and amount to pay, to ensure the contractor is never overfunded. We individually assess any requests for cost variations and report on their reasonableness and if they should be included. We ensure the total contract value is updated so that you know exactly where you are financially throughout the project. We also offer technical support to your builder to ensure alternatives and savings are explored to protect your budget.
Clear Survey’s business model was developed from the ground up to have the smallest possible footprint. We operate to high moral and ethical standards and treat people and resources with respect.
Clear Surveys Building Contractors
Expert professionals with decades of combined experience

Surveyor & Founder
Ben Clear has been in the building industry all his working life.
His building company CRB Contractors was founded by his father in 1979 and Ben took over the running of the company in 2005 after achieving a first class honours degree punctuated by summers spent working ‘on the tools’. Ben trained as a surveyor alongside his career in managing large building projects.
A recognised Master Builder, Ben was a founding member of the National Standards Committee for the Federation of Master Builders. He sat on committee for ten years, advising on disputes and technical issues.
Ben has a high level of technical expertise but is also an experienced developer and designer, having bought, improved and sold multiple properties over many years. Importantly he knows how to quickly and accurately provide costs and identify whether a property or a project is worthwhile of your attention and your finances.
During his 18 years at the helm of CRB Contractors, Ben managed large teams and projects from inception to completion so he has an intimate knowledge of how contractors work and their costs. In surveying, these skills combine to produce an almost unique advantage.
Ben lives in Seaford, East Sussex with his wife Aimee and daughters, Evie, Ruby and Rosa.
“It’s important to me to love what you do. I enjoy the detective style work required to establish the root cause of defects in buildings and I relish the problem solving and pragmatism that building projects demand.
Most of all I enjoy the important relationships that underpin our projects. I strive to always understand my client’s hopes and wishes and I believe this is pivotal in offering people both what they need and what they want from their homes.”
