Finding The Right Contractor, We Can Help

The Tender process can be daunting. How do you choose the contractors? How do you compare one to another? How can you be sure they are professional and trustworthy? The list goes on. We are very experienced in helping our clients through the Tender process.

What Is Tender?

Tender refers to the process of inviting multiple contractors to quote for your project.

The process isn’t simply about who provides the cheapest quote. It’s about finding the right contractor for your project. Making sure they are appropriate and capable, and have the right skills and resources to undertake your project.

A smaller contractor may well provide the cheapest quote. But they can quickly find themselves under resourced. Not enough people on site, lack of specialist equipment and a lack of experience of a project of your size or type. The result is often that the project completion date is repeatedly pushed back, sometimes by months.

A large contractor working on a small project will have the right people and equipment for the project. They will likely meet their estimated completion date. But, their quote will reflect this and you may find your budget being squeezed.

How We Can Help

You can benefit from our years of experience of working with contractors of all sizes across Sussex and Kent. Small, medium and large, we have excellent working relationships with reliable contractors who we are comfortable to recommend to you.

As part of our ethical working practices, we do not accept a commission for making a recommendation.

Having completed the Schedule of Works for you, we send the document to the contractors you select from our list of approver contractors. Or any other recommendations you’ve been given.

We meet with each of them on site to discuss the project and answer their questions. This ensures they fully understand the project and what they are quoting for.

Once the Tenders (quotes) are received, we complete a detailed tender analysis. We compare costs against industry standard and against the other tenders, checking for high and low items. This helps to identify any significant cost differences.

Importantly, we also check for omissions. It’s very common for omissions to be made, making a tender appear less expensive. However, costs then rise during the build as these careless omissions are identified and added to the original tender.

We present an assessment of the risk areas where costs may be variable or where we recommend seeking clarifications from the contractor.

You are now in a position to make a confident and informed decision. You can choose a contractor who you have faith in and who can deliver your project on budget. The next stage is to move on to drawing up the Contract.

Our aim is to ensure your project goes as smoothly as possible and that you have an enjoyable, not stressful build experience.
